In the first weeks of SENSE, we have been listening for the signposts: the people and practices that steady us when the horizon blurs.

But signposts rarely exist in isolation. They are usually part of a longer trail.

Naming the Lineage

This week, we are looking at the lineages behind resilience. When we talk about what sustains us, we are often talking about inherited practices, remembered stories, and forms of guidance passed through families, cultures, and communities.

One of the shifts in this part of the cycle is moving from carrying everything alone to noticing the people and traditions that have helped hold us up.

The Shift: From “I” to “WE”

If the first chapter of our journey (SEE) was about naming the weight we carry as individuals, this stage is about discovering the “WE.”

There is also a difference between naming what we are owed and naming what holds us together.

  • Justice can feel like a claim: this is wrong, this is what should change.
  • Care is relational: this is how we stay human with one another while we keep going.

In this community, we are practicing that shift from “What is happening to me?” toward “What is the thread that holds us together?”

We are looking for a grounded hope, one that is not naive about difficulty but also does not assume we are walking the terrain alone.

This Week’s Invitation: Name Your Anchor

We invite you to share a short “Signpost Profile”: a story of a tradition, person, or lineage that anchors you. This does not have to be biological. It can include mentors, elders, teachers, colleagues, or communities of practice.

Try reflecting on one of these:

  • The inherited ritual: What is a practice you learned from someone else that still steadies you?
  • The story that sustains: Is there a story, proverb, or memory you return to when things feel fragmented?
  • The professional ancestor: Who practiced your craft before you and left markers for you to follow?

How to Add to the Map

You can contribute to our growing Resource Bank of tools, rituals, and stories in three ways:

  1. Audio: Record a short reflection via Signal or our submission link.
  2. Text: Write a short Signpost Profile.
  3. Visual: Share a photo of an object or space that represents your lineage with a brief caption.

A Question to Carry

What did someone do for you in the past that you now find yourself doing for others?

We are building a small library of these anchors so that when one of us feels lost, we can look up and remember that others have already left directions behind.
