In our first two weeks of SENSE , we’ve been quiet. We’ve been listening for the signposts. Those people and practices that steady us when the horizon blurs.
But signposts rarely exist in isolation. They are usually part of a longer trail.
Naming the Lineage
This week, we are looking at the lineages behind our resilience. When we talk about what sustains us, we often mean “ancestral threads.” The rituals, stories, or inherited wisdom that are passed down through families, cultures, or professional mentors.
One of our core goals in this chapter is to move from carrying to witnessing. We are shifting our gaze from the problems we face alone to the helpers who stand with us.
The Shift: From “I” to “WE”
If the first chapter of our journey (SEE) was about naming the weight we carry as individuals, this stage is about discovering the “WE.”
There is a profound difference between Justice and Care.
- Justice often feels like an individual claim. I am right, this is the rule, this is what I am owed.
- Care is relational. It is the “WE” that prioritizes the relationship and the specific needs of the person standing before us over abstract principles.
In this community, we are practicing that shift. We are moving from “What is happening to me?” to “What is the thread that holds us together?”
We are looking for a critical hope. One that isn’t naïve about the struggle, but is grounded in the reality that we do not walk the terrain alone.
This Week’s Invitation: Name Your Anchor
We invite you to share a “Signpost Profile.” A story of a tradition or a lineage that anchors you. This doesn’t have to be biological. It can be the “intellectual ancestors” or the community elders who taught you how to stay grounded.
Try reflecting on one of these:
- The Inherited Ritual: What is a practice you do, perhaps a way you start your day or a way you handle friction, that you learned from someone else?
- The Story That Sustains: Is there a specific story or proverb from your lineage that you return to when things feel fragmented?
- The Professional Ancestor: Who is the mentor or colleague who practiced your craft before you and left markers for you to follow?
How to Add to the Map
You can contribute to our growing Resource Bank of tools, rituals, and stories in three ways:
- Audio: Record a 5-minute reflection via Signal or our submission link.
- Text: Write a short “Signpost Profile” (200-500 words).
- Visual: Share a photo of an object or space that represents your lineage with a brief caption.
A Question to Carry
What did someone do for you in the past that you are now doing for others?
We are building a library of these anchors so that when one of us feels lost, we can look at the map and see the directions others have found.
