The Signpost Sessions is seeking contributors, storytellers, and critical thinkers to help us build a library of guidance. We are looking for pieces that bridge the gap between documentation and collective memory. Insights that are both deeply personal and critically engaged.
The Editorial Focus: Hope is Never Neutral
At the center of our inquiry is a critical examination of Hope. We operate from the understanding that hope is deeply entangled with the conditions of identity, culture, privilege, and bias. For some, hope is a given; for others, it is a radical act of resistance. We are looking for work that interrogates this reality.
Option 1: Individual Articles
We are accepting pitches and full drafts that address the following themes. While we welcome unique angles, we are specifically looking for pieces that address:
Theme A: The Practice & The Process
Focusing on the thinking, learning, and sharing required to sustain hope.
- How to Share Without Feeling Self-Conscious: Sharing your voice can feel exposing. We are looking for reflections on overcoming “imposter syndrome” and giving yourself permission to take up space.
- From Documentation to Collective Memory: Written history often excludes nuance. We are interested in audio as a tool for inclusive archiving. How does listening change how we learn?
- Protecting Your Energy: Hope is labor. We are looking for honest discussions about burnout, boundaries, and the “cost” of being visible.
Theme B: The Philosophy of the Signpost
Reflecting on the role of guidance, visibility, and the reality of the journey.
- What It Means to Become a Signpost: In a world obsessed with “gurus,” what does it mean to simply point the way? We want to explore the humility of guidance.
- Making Ourselves Visible Without Self-Promotion: How do we occupy space and share wisdom authentically, rejecting “influencer culture” in favor of genuine connection?
- Why We Start With Struggle: Hope that ignores reality is fragile. We are seeking essays on why it is necessary to name the difficulty—the systemic barriers and personal doubts—before we can build a path forward.
Theme C: Global & Cultural Contexts
Understanding how hope, care, and guidance translate across different worlds.
- Hope Across Borders: How does “hope” manifest in spaces of conflict, migration, or deep systemic inequality?
- Care Practices That Travel: In some cultures, care is loud; in others, quiet. We are looking for stories about the traditions of care you carry.
- Cultural Variations of Leadership: Leadership doesn’t always look like the person at the front of the room. How does your culture define a “guide”?
Option 2: Collaborative Research Teams
If you prefer dialogue over solo writing, we invite you to join our research tracks. Teams will work together to synthesize findings and co-author resource guides.
Current Research Focus:
What is hope? What are the key connections across identity, culture, privilege, and bias?
(Select “Collaborative Research” in the form below to apply.)
Option 3: Open Participation (The Distributed Signpost)
You do not need to publish with us to be part of this conversation. We believe in the power of the open web and distributed knowledge.
