Communities don’t emerge automatically. They are shaped through intention. Especially in digital spaces where power, vulnerability, and visibility can become complicated.
As we prepare to launch the Signpost Sessions, we want to be intentional about the culture we are building. We are not just building a blog; we are building a tribe. And for a tribe to function, trust must come first.
We are navigating heavy topics. Burnout, systemic issues, and personal struggle. To do this safely, we are adopting a community ethos we call “Strong Spine, Soft Heart.”
Our Community Agreements
This is not a space for toxic positivity, nor is it a space for despair. It is a space for honest witnessing and compassionate action. These agreements apply to both our online spaces (such as Signal) and our live gatherings.
1. No Echo Chambers. We are here to challenge our own thinking. We welcome diverse perspectives, provided they are rooted in respect.
2. Loving Kindness & Curiosity. We approach each other’s stories with curiosity rather than judgment. We assume good intentions while staying accountable. We listen to understand, not to refute.
3. Presence Over Solutions. We are here to listen and “hold space.” We are not here to fix each other or offer unsolicited advice. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer is your attention.
4. Space-Taking Awareness. In both written and live settings, we strike a balance between sharing our stories and listening to others. If you notice you’ve been talking a lot, pause and invite others in. We practice collective care by making room for many voices.
5. Privacy First. What is shared in our live calls or private chats stays there. We use Signal for our day-to-day communication to ensure your data and your conversations remain private. Our synchronous gatherings will not be recorded. They’re meant to feel like a room you can step into. Not a stage where you might get a screenshot.
6. Consent Is Ongoing. If you choose to share your story through audio submissions, you’ll choose your comfort level. From fully private to public and attributed. You can change your mind at any time. We will not bend consent.
7. Many Ways to Participate. This space honors various forms of presence, including reading, listening, reflecting, commenting, sharing, and participating live. All forms of engagement are valid. There is no “behind” to fall.
What We Ask of You
- Follow the privacy protocols (details to be shared on Friday).
- Respect others’ consent and privacy choices.
- Hold the space with generosity and care.
- Don’t join to extract data for external projects. This is a listening-first community.
These agreements are our starting point. They’ll evolve as we learn together what this community needs.
Join the Conversation
On Friday, we’ll share how to connect with us. This includes our Signal group and other tools, where you can share resources, feel heard, or just be present without waiting for a monthly meeting.
