This is not a performance. There is no “right” way to do this.

What we’re inviting you to leave is closer to a voicemail for a friend than a recording for an audience.

Take a breath. Go at your own pace.

When you’re ready, you can open a private message with our Signal intake account.

This link will open Signal and start a private chat. You don’t have to send anything unless and until you’re ready.

(If you prefer, you can also search for the account name initiated.01 inside Signal.)

Option 1: Leave a Voice Note (Audio)

We’re using Signal to receive audio privately. You can do this in two ways.

  1. Record audio using your phone’s built-in app
    • iPhone: Voice Memos
    • Android: Recorder / Voice Recorder
  2. Save the recording (2–5 minutes is plenty; shorter is fine)
  3. Open Signal
  4. Start a message with our intake account: initiated.01
  5. Tap the attachment icon (paperclip or “+”)
  6. Choose Audio or File (wording varies by phone)
  7. Select your recording and send

If you want, add one short line of text with your consent preference (see examples below).

B) Record directly inside Signal (also fine)

If you prefer, you can record a quick voice note directly in Signal by tapping and holding the microphone icon. Either way works.

A small privacy note

If you record using your phone’s Voice Memos or Recorder app, the file may include basic metadata (such as date or time).

If you’d rather avoid that, recording directly in Signal is the simplest option. You don’t need to worry about perfection here. We treat all submissions with care.

Option 2: Send a Text Message Instead

If speaking feels uncomfortable, unsafe, or inaccessible, you can share in writing.

  • Short or long is fine
  • Complete or unfinished is fine
  • Bullet points are fine

If you’d like, our team can later record your words using one of our voices. Your message, without your voice attached.

Just let us know what you prefer.

About Calls (Important)

Signal does not support voicemail. If you want to leave audio, please send a voice note or audio file, not a call.

This account is not for conversation. It’s a listening post.

About Privacy and Anonymity

We want to be very clear about this.

  • What you send is private
  • A real person will listen or read
  • Nothing is shared publicly without your permission

To protect yourself and others, we recommend avoiding real names, exact locations, or other identifying details unless you intentionally want them included.

Because some people choose to remain anonymous, please include a short consent note with your voice note or message.

This can be in your own words. Examples include:

  • “Okay to archive anonymously.”
  • “Okay to use excerpts, please keep me anonymous.”
  • “Please contact me before sharing.”
  • “For private listening only.”

If you do not include a consent note, we will treat your submission as private listening only.

You can always choose the most cautious option. There is no pressure to say yes.

What Happens After You Send Something

  • A small facilitation team listens or reads carefully
  • What you share is treated as testimony, not content
  • Nothing is edited, published, or excerpted automatically

If something might be helpful to share more broadly later, we will reach out first — when possible — and only proceed with your consent.

A Final Reassurance

You do not need to sound confident. You do not need to sound polished. You do not need to sound like anyone else.

This is about witnessing, not performing.

If all you can offer right now is a few honest sentences, spoken or written, that is more than enough.

We’re glad you’re here.
