InitiatED is a cooperative network focused on one core goal:
Building community capacity for digital autonomy.
That phrase matters. We’re not building a platform. We’re not delivering tools. We’re not chasing scale for its own sake. We’re working alongside individuals who are already doing hard, meaningful work. in schools, nonprofits, community organizations, grassroots movements, and everyday life to help communities strengthen their ability to choose, govern, and care for their digital lives together.
This work stems from years of educator-focused organizing, research, and experimentation. What’s changing now is scope, not values. We’re widening the circle while holding fast to the principles that got us here: cooperation over extraction, privacy over surveillance, and trust over performance.
How We’re Starting
We’re launching InitiatED’s next chapter through Signpost Sessions : six-month community practice cohorts designed to support reflection, connection, and digital resilience.
This isn’t a course. It isn’t a productivity system. And it isn’t something you can “fall behind” in.
Signpost Sessions are designed for individuals with busy, real-world lives. People balancing caregiving, organizing, teaching, paid work, grief, burnout, joy, and shifting capacity. Participation is intentionally flexible, consent-based, and human-scaled.
Three Ways to Participate
1. Listen
You can simply follow along. Read the posts. Sit with the prompts. Do the reflection privately. The thinking and noticing you do offline counts. You don’t owe us visibility or output.
2. Connect
We host day-to-day conversation in a Signal group—our rapid-response space for sharing resources, asking questions, and staying connected without corporate surveillance. Lurking is welcome. Participation is optional.
3. Gather
We host periodic live gatherings:
- Socials for informal connection
- Workshops for shared sense-making around real challenges
All gatherings are unrecorded and privacy-respecting. What’s shared in the room stays in the room.
Sharing Is Optional
If you would like to contribute more formally, we offer an optional submission process for audio or written reflections, with clear consent options and anonymity choices. Reflecting privately is enough. This work is about presence, not performance.
Why This Matters Now
Many of us feel the strain of fragile institutions, noisy information systems, and extractive digital tools. At the same time, we know that resilience doesn’t come from individual optimization. It comes from communities building capacity together.
That’s what InitiatED is here to support.
We’re building slowly.
We’re building cooperatively.
We’re building at the speed of trust.
Come when you can. Stay as long as it serves you. Step back when you need to.
We’ll be here.
